Connect Indeed to Claude using the built-in MCP connector. Upload your resume, multiple resume tracks, or use your Indeed profile. Type a prompt and get qualitative fit assessments for each role in seconds. This free guide walks you through every step.
Everything here is free. No purchases, no API keys, no coding.
The Indeed connector is a pre-built directory connector available across web (claude.ai), Claude Desktop, and Claude mobile (iOS/Android). No special hardware required.
Use Claude on the web at claude.ai, or download Claude Desktop from claude.ai/download (macOS or Windows). The Indeed connector works on both.
Sign up at claude.ai. Free, Pro, or Max all support MCP connectors including Indeed. Pro ($20/mo) and Max ($100/mo) give higher usage limits if you run many searches.
Follow these 5 steps. Each one takes about 1 minute.
Go to claude.ai on the web, or download Claude Desktop from claude.ai/download (macOS or Windows) or the Claude app from the iOS/Android app stores. Sign in with your Claude account (create one for free if you don't have one). The Indeed connector works on all three.
In the message input area, look for the connectors/integrations icon (puzzle piece or tools icon). Click it to open the list of available connectors. Find "Indeed" and click Connect. Follow any authorization prompts. That's it — no API key, no configuration file.
What tools do you have? in the chat. Claude will list Indeed among its available tools, confirming the connection is active.Click the paperclip icon (๐) in the message input area and select your resume file (.docx or .pdf). You can also drag and drop the file directly into the chat window. Claude will read it and use it as context for matching against job descriptions.
With your resume attached, type a prompt telling Claude what to search for and how you want the results assessed against your resume. Be specific about role title, location, and any filters. Here are ready-to-use prompts:
Claude searches Indeed using your keywords, fetches the full job description for each result, then reads each one against your resume (or Indeed profile) and gives you a plain-English fit assessment per role โ what matches, what's a gap, and the considerations to weigh. Every result includes the Indeed apply link so you can apply directly. Note: structured numeric scoring with the apply / consider / skip rubric is part of the paid Quick Scan kit.
Here's what happens when Joan Doe uploads her resume and asks Claude to scan Indeed. The free kit gives qualitative fit narratives per role: what aligns, what's a stretch, and the practical considerations. All company names below are fictional examples.
Once Indeed is connected, you can use it for more than basic search. Each prompt below maps directly to an Indeed MCP tool:
Search Indeed for "operations director" roles in Hong Kong, fulltime only — supports country, city/remote, role keywords, and job type (fulltime, parttime, contract, internship, temporary).
Get the full job description and apply link for the [role] at [company] from the search results above — fetches the complete JD plus the direct apply URL. Works on any role from a prior search in the same chat.
Tell me about [company]: ratings, culture, management, and employee reviews — pulls metadata (CEO, size, industry), employee-rated metrics (work-life balance, management, CEO approval, happiness), and reviews from Indeed's company database.
What's the average salary for a Senior Product Manager at [company] in Singapore? — returns Indeed's salary data for a specific role at a specific company.
Note: Indeed's salary lookup requires both a job title and a company name. Generic queries like "average PM salary in Singapore" won't work.
The Indeed MCP connector is useful but has clear limits. Here's what to expect.
Claude searches and scores jobs. It does NOT submit applications on your behalf. You click "Apply" yourself on Indeed.
This free method gives you search, qualitative fit assessment, and analysis in the chat. It does not produce .docx resume files or formatted cover letters. For per-role tailored resume + cover letter files, see the Quick Scan & Tailoring Agent Kit (US$19). For the full automated pipeline with scheduled scans, see the Gmail Job Alerts Full Automation Kit (US$29).
This connector only searches Indeed. LinkedIn, Glassdoor, Seek, and company career pages are not covered. You can search those separately using Claude's web search.
Claude Free uses a sliding 5-hour window (typically 15โ40 messages depending on conversation length, attachments, and system load). Heavy searching with full JD retrieval will hit this limit faster. Pro ($20/mo) and Max ($100/mo) give significantly higher limits if you run many searches.
Every search is manual. You type a prompt, Claude searches. There's no background scanning or timed runs. For automated scheduled scans and a full application tracker, see the Gmail Full Automation Kit.
If a job isn't listed on Indeed, Claude can't find it. Some employers post exclusively on LinkedIn or their own career pages.
Each new conversation starts fresh. Claude doesn't remember previous searches unless you re-upload your resume and repeat context. Claude Pro with Projects can help persist context.
The pre-built Indeed connector (what this guide uses) works on Claude web, Desktop, and mobile across Free/Pro/Max plans. Custom MCP servers (a separate, advanced feature) have stricter requirements. That's a different topic and not what this kit covers.
This free kit helps you find roles and ask Claude how each one stacks up against your resume. It's ad-hoc and conversational. The paid kits add the structured 3-perspective scoring rubric (consistent across every role, comparable, threshold-driven) plus tailored resume and cover letter generation per fit. Here's how to level up from free:
